Peter and Catherine (or ‘Ca’ as she is better known to friends and family) were married on March 8th, 2012, and celebrated their day at the Capella Hotel in Castlemartyr, Co. Cork. This was one of those great Irish weddings where family and community came together and pulled out the stops to give Pete & Ca one hell of a send-off.
Pete is probably the most entertaining characters you could ever hope to meet. Despite the seriousness of the work he does as a family lawyer, he spends every spare minute trying to get a laugh out of those around him, and usually at his own expense. But in Ca he’s definitely met his match; a real and grounded lady who is not afraid to speak her mind. That said, and as you will see from the photos below, Ca has an absolutely infectious smile, and lights up every room she walks into.
I know that for Ca one of the highlights of the day was the wedding cake, made by her cousin (who’s been known to do some baking for the British royal family, don’t you mind). The cake arrived in four separate hat boxes on four separate airplane seats and was truly spectacular.
This wedding was a first for me in that I had the opportunity to work alongside my goodly wife. Naomi spent time with the ladies while they did their preparations and she really impressed me with the photos she made, some of which even made it into today’s blog post! Kudos to you Life-Wife.
The great thing about wedding photography in Ireland is that you almost always get an opportunity to photograph in ‘olde worlde’ locations. The backgrounds tend to have a nice faded texture, which I think compliments my style. The downside of course is the weather. Vancouverites like to talk about living in ‘Rain City’ on the ‘Wet Coast’, but you ain’t seen rain till you’ve been to Ireland! Thankfully on March 8th we were spared the worst of it and were able to make the most of the beautiful grounds of the Capella.
